"My name is Yiannis Yiasaris. I am from Greece but have lived in Australia for the last 17 years.

My first contact with photography was years ago in high school when I was involved in a class project. I became involved with photography again 5 years ago when I took part in some mobile photo competitions. I did quite well in these and with the encouragement of my family and friends, made the decision to buy my first camera. With my camera on board, I soon discovered that photography was more than just taking the shot and read and researched about how to process and then edit my photos.

I didn't know the kind of photography I was interested in but remember that from a young age, I had an interest and curiosity about the world around me and loved to watch people go about their daily lives. This interest in people leads me many years later to discover my passion for street photography. When I'm on the road I look for good light, color combinations, shapes and interesting compositions with the aim of capturing and creating something special from something ordinary. What excites me about street photography is the feeling of being on a hunt for that special moment where all the above elements need to come together to create something memorable for the viewer. There's usually only one opportunity to capture that moment before it is lost forever.

Although most of my photos are from Melbourne, where I live and work, a large number of my photos are from different trips I have taken. I have a long-term project which involves publishing a book capturing my photos from 100 cities around the world.

In 2016 I was voted the best Black & White photographer in Australia and I am among the finalist for the last 4 years. In 2018 I was in the top 12 Aussie Street Photographers and I was a finalist to Miami Street Photography Festival for 2 years in a row in 2018 and 2019 and finalist on 8TH ANNUAL MPA (Mobile Photography Awards). Photographs and interviews of mine have been published in several magazines and street photography blogs. I have also published two limited edition books, one in black and white and the other in color.
